Motorists in Indonesia were left surprised after spotting a BYD electric vehicle (EV) travelling with several durians hanging from the rear of the car.
The unusual sight was recently captured on a highway and later shared on Instagram by the socialfeed_id account, attracting more than 23,000 views.
The video showed around five durians suspended near the vehicle’s registration plate, with a piece of cardboard placed underneath them.
The unusual method appeared to be an attempt to transport the pungent fruit without placing it inside the vehicle, although the exact reason behind the decision was unclear.
Some social media users speculated that the arrangement could help prevent other vehicles from hitting the durians, while others suggested the driver may have wanted to avoid leaving the strong durian smell inside the EV.
The sight quickly became a talking point online, with viewers sharing humorous reactions to the unconventional way the driver chose to carry the popular Southeast Asian fruit.
One user joked: “You can put it inside the car, but the whole car will smell of durian.”
The video has since continued to attract attention, turning an otherwise ordinary highway journey into an amusing social media moment.
