Rosie O’Donnell has revealed that she secretly underwent a facelift earlier this year after struggling with changes to her appearance following major weight loss.
In a candid post shared on Substack on May 25, the comedian admitted the cosmetic procedure was expensive, joking that it “cost more money than I have ever paid for a car.”
Rosie also confessed that she once held strong views against facelifts, saying she previously believed cosmetic surgery was a betrayal of feminism, ageing, and women embracing their natural selves.
However, after losing around 50 pounds, the 64-year-old said she began to feel differently about her appearance, describing her face as looking like it was “melting with intention.”
She said she initially tried to embrace the changes naturally, but eventually questioned how far acceptance should go.
Despite finally deciding to undergo the procedure in January, Rosie admitted that almost nobody noticed the difference afterward.
“Not one person. Not a friend, not a stranger,” she wrote, adding humorously that not even people “who owe me compliments” commented on it.
Rosie also shared that her youngest child, Clay, had once told her they would struggle to respect her if she ever got a facelift. However, she said the experience ultimately changed how she viewed personal freedom and body autonomy.
According to Rosie, she realised she did not want to teach her child that her body belonged to an ideology, even one rooted in feminism.
The former talk show host said she chose to speak openly about the facelift because she dislikes keeping secrets and wants to use her voice honestly.
She ended her reflection by saying she was sharing her truth for “the girl I was, the woman I am, and all those joining my ranks.”
