A mysterious death on Thailand’s Phuket Island is under investigation after a 26-year-old woman was found dead inside a hotel room on September 15. Her naked body was discovered lying on the floor at the foot of the bed with no obvious injuries or signs of struggle, while the two middle-aged men she had checked in with had already left.
Thai media outlets The Thaiger and Newsflare identified the victim as Kanyarat Wiriyang from Loei Province. She had graduated from university in 2023 and had just celebrated her 26th birthday on September 9. According to reports, she checked into the Phuket hotel on September 12 with two men believed to have been drinking and engaging in sexual activity with her.
Housekeeping staff said they went to the room after checkout time on the 15th and found no response. When they opened the door, they were shocked to see someone lying on the floor. Police arriving at the scene found the bedsheets rumpled, alcohol bottles, glasses and a packet of suspected drugs on the table, along with small traces of blood on the floor. Preliminary tests indicated morphine-like substances inside the bottles.
Paramedics estimated Kanyarat had been dead for about 12 hours. Her body was sent for a full autopsy and toxicology tests. Investigators said they have not ruled out death from drug-laced alcohol, accidental overdose, or possible foul play such as being drugged or sexually assaulted.
CCTV footage reportedly shows a foreign man checking into the hotel with Kanyarat but leaving early in the morning and never returning, without leaving full details at the front desk. Police are now trying to track him and the other companion to determine exactly what happened. The case has shocked other guests and hotel staff as authorities review surveillance footage and question anyone who may have had contact with the victim.
