A barbershop owner who allegedly claimed to have 28 wives has been charged, along with his first and second wives, over the murder of a 26-year-old man in a case that has shocked authorities.
Police said the trio were brought to court for remand following the killing, with bail opposed due to the seriousness of the charges.
According to investigators, the victim, identified as Thiti, also known as Tee, was allegedly lured to the salon by the shop owner, 58-year-old Jirawat, also known as Ek, under the pretext of retrieving a mobile phone.
Police allege that once inside the premises, Thiti was restrained by the suspects before being repeatedly struck on the head with a pestle, resulting in his death.
Authorities further claimed that the suspects later attempted to stage the scene by placing a knife in the victim’s hand and suggesting he had acted in self-defence. They also alleged that a narrative was fabricated that the victim had entered the shop armed and demanded money.
However, an audio recording allegedly captured by a female customer inside the salon later emerged as key evidence. The recording reportedly contains the victim’s cries for help before he died, contradicting the suspects’ version of events.
On April 18, 2026, police detained Jirawat and his two wives—his first wife and a second wife identified as a Lao national—for overnight questioning at Pak Kret Police Station.
All three suspects have been formally charged with premeditated murder as well as concealing and tampering with evidence. Jirawat has continued to deny the allegations, insisting the incident was an act of self-defence.
Before being taken to Nonthaburi Provincial Court for remand proceedings, Jirawat told reporters he would explain his version in court. However, when questioned about the alleged audio recording, he declined to respond.
Police also noted claims made by Jirawat regarding his personal life, including an assertion that he had multiple relationships, although only one partner lived with him.
