“Blood Dripping Suitcase” Scare On Shanghai Metro Turns Out To Be Frozen Food

Date:

A shocking scene on the Shanghai Metro sparked public concern after a man was seen carrying a suitcase that appeared to be leaking blood during a morning commute on April 8.

According to eyewitness footage shared online, the incident occurred around 11am on Metro Line 9 near the approach to Xujiahui Station. The passenger was seen holding a green suitcase from which a red liquid appeared to be seeping out, while he was also seen using tissue paper, seemingly attempting to wipe the substance.

The unusual sight quickly went viral, with many users expressing alarm over what appeared to be blood dripping from the luggage.

However, authorities later clarified the situation following an investigation. A representative from Shanghai Metro’s Line 9 Songjiang section confirmed that the passenger had transferred from Shanghai Songjiang Railway Station via a non-inspection passage before entering the metro system.

It was found that the suitcase contained frozen duck blood products originating from Hunan province. Due to the length of the high-speed rail journey, the frozen food thawed during transit, causing liquid to leak from the luggage.

Officials stressed that there was no safety threat, adding that the situation was entirely normal and thanked the public for their concern regarding metro safety.
