A 30-year-old burger seller was charged at the Ayer Keroh Magistrate’s Court today with allegedly abusing his 10-month-old baby boy by slapping and biting the child earlier this month.
The accused, Wan Faddli Abd Saad, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to him through a court interpreter before Magistrate Uthman Abd Ghani.
He is accused of intentionally causing injury to his infant son at around 4am at a house in Lorong Abdullah, Jalan AMJ, Semabok, on May 6.
The charge was framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A, which provides for a maximum punishment of up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Syaza Nur Sharif proposed bail at RM10,000 along with additional conditions, including that the accused should not contact or interfere with the victim.
However, Yayasan Bantuan Guaman Kebangsaan (YBGK) lawyer Muhammad Izzuddin Ab Malek requested a lower bail, stating that his client is a burger seller earning around RM1,000 per month.
The court allowed bail at RM3,000 with additional conditions as requested by the prosecution and fixed June 23 for mention of the case.
