Couple Unaware Of National Park’s 24-Hour Camera Broadcasts Intimate Act Online

Date:

Authorities in Taiwan are investigating a couple accused of committing a public indecency offence after their intimate act was accidentally broadcast live through an official 24-hour livestream camera at Yangmingshan National Park.

The incident reportedly took place in the early hours of May 15 at Qingtiangang, a well-known grassland attraction within the national park.

According to reports, the couple allegedly engaged in sexual activity inside a pavilion, unaware that the area was monitored by a 360-degree 4K livestream camera operated by the Yangmingshan National Park Administration.

The camera system, which also captures audio, reportedly broadcast both the visuals and sounds of the incident online in real time, attracting large numbers of viewers and quickly sparking widespread discussion on social media.

Police later identified a 1992-born man surnamed Gao through surveillance footage and vehicle tracking investigations. Authorities subsequently contacted him for questioning over the incident.

The man reportedly admitted during preliminary questioning that he acted impulsively while spending time with his girlfriend late at night and claimed he had no idea the pavilion area was under livestream surveillance.

Sources said the suspect had taken leave from work and would cooperate fully with police investigations.

The case is currently being investigated under Taiwan’s public indecency laws.

In response to the controversy, the Yangmingshan National Park Administration issued a statement reminding visitors that national parks are public natural spaces and that members of the public should behave responsibly while respecting both the environment and others around them.

Authorities also warned that inappropriate behaviour in public areas could not only endanger individuals but may also violate public order and criminal laws related to indecent acts.

The park administration confirmed that relevant footage had already been handed over to judicial authorities to assist investigations and that the controversial livestream recording had since been removed.

Officials further warned the public against reproducing or sharing the explicit footage online without consent, saying those who distribute sexual content could face prosecution under Taiwan’s laws relating to the dissemination of explicit images, which carry penalties of up to five years’ imprisonment.
