Higher Education Ministry Rejects Calls To Lower University Entry Standards

Date:

The Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) has stressed that the standards and quality of admissions for students from outside the national education system into public higher education institutions (IPTA) cannot be compromised.

Responding to criticism from the United Chinese School Committees’ Association of Malaysia (Dong Zong), which claimed that the entry requirements set by KPT remain too high, Higher Education Director-General Datuk Prof Dr Azlinda Azman said all admission requirements are determined by the respective university senates without external interference.

“In reality, universities already have their own admission requirements. These have been carefully reviewed and, for KPT, the University Senate is the highest authority that determines quality and standards.

“That is something we cannot compromise on. No one can interfere,” she said during a special press conference on admission pathways for students from outside the national education system into IPTA today.
