Police have arrested a foreign national after he was believed to have threatened to kill his younger sister with a machete in an incident at Ladang Suai 2, Jalan BLD, Ulu Suai, Miri, yesterday.
Miri District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, said the incident was reported at about 1.44pm by the 35-year-old victim after she allegedly received death threats from her 37-year-old brother at their home.
Following the report, police launched an operation to track down the suspect, who had fled the scene shortly after the incident.
He was later arrested in a raid at a farm hut near Wilmar Suai 1 Oil Palm Estate based on intelligence and information gathered by police.
During a search at the arrest location, officers also uncovered several dangerous items believed to belong to the suspect. Police seized a machete and a homemade shotgun along with six rounds of ammunition.
Mohd Farhan said the suspect has been remanded for four days until 27 April to assist investigations. Preliminary drug screening also showed that the man tested positive for drugs.
The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, which carries a penalty of up to seven years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.
It is also being investigated under Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960 for possession of an unlicensed firearm.
