Police have confirmed that a road accident involving a motorcycle and a car, which went viral on social media, occurred along Jalan 16/11 in Petaling Jaya yesterday morning.
Petaling Jaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Shamsudin Mamat, said the incident happened at about 7.10am when a motorcycle carrying two riders suddenly changed lanes from the left to the right side of the road.
As a result of the abrupt manoeuvre, a car travelling in the right lane was unable to avoid the motorcycle and collided with its rear. The impact caused both the rider and pillion passenger to fall onto the road.
The female driver of the car, a local, immediately stopped her vehicle and rendered assistance. She later transported the injured victims to a nearby clinic for medical treatment.
Shamsudin said the driver subsequently went to the police station to lodge a report, and investigations are being carried out under Section 6(1) of the Road Transport Act 1959.
He also reminded all road users to obey traffic laws at all times and avoid dangerous driving behaviour to prevent accidents.
