The Sessions Court today sentenced three men and a woman to 10 years in prison each for their involvement in a gang robbery committed last week.

Judge Musli Abdul Hamid delivered the sentence to Mohd Ikmarruddin Adery, 30, Mohd Farus Junaidi, 30, Zaidi Majani, 37, and Nor Atiesya Mohamad Effindy, 30, after they pleaded guilty to the charge.

The court also ordered the three men to receive five strokes of the cane each.

The four were jointly charged with robbing a 23-year-old man at a hotel in Batu 3 at 9 pm on Nov 13. The offence, framed under Section 395 of the Penal Code and read together with Section 34, carries a maximum penalty of 20 years’ imprisonment and whipping upon conviction.

They were ordered to serve their jail terms from the date of their arrest on Nov 14.

According to case facts, the victim was in a hotel room with a woman known as “Bella” when the accused entered. One of the men claimed to be the woman’s husband, scolded and threatened the victim before taking his car keys, identity card and mobile phone. The group then fled in the victim’s car, which was parked at the hotel.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Asmawi Nur Haqim Mokhtar led the prosecution, while all four accused were unrepresented.
