Four Suspects To Be Charged Over Brutal Killing Of Senior Citizen

Date:

Police have successfully solved a murder case involving an elderly man who was killed during a robbery at his home in Pekan Baru, following the arrest of four suspects in separate operations.

According to Hilir Perak District Police Headquarters Chief Assistant Commissioner Chua Kok Lian, the arrests were made between April 23 and April 27 in Teluk Intan and Bentong, Pahang, leading to the recovery of multiple items linked to the case.

Police seized a Perodua Axia car, a Honda EX5 motorcycle, two machetes, clothing, gloves and face masks believed to have been used during the incident. Authorities also recovered RM8,000 worth of jewellery belonging to the victim, which had been pawned at a local gold shop.

Chua said all four suspects, aged between 20 and 30, have prior criminal records involving violent offences, property crimes and drug-related activities. He added that urine tests showed two of the suspects tested positive for methamphetamine.

Investigations have been completed and the case has been referred to the Attorney General’s Chambers. Police confirmed that all four suspects will be charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code at the Teluk Intan Magistrates’ Court.

Authorities are also still tracking down another suspect identified as Sri Shaileswara, 26, to assist in the ongoing investigation.

In a related development, police also dismantled a cable theft syndicate with the arrest of three men on April 18. Although initially detained in connection with the murder investigation, further checks revealed their involvement was limited to cable theft cases.

The cable theft group is believed to be linked to one housebreaking case and six cable theft incidents around Teluk Intan, causing losses estimated at RM200,000.

The fatal incident occurred at about 6.02am on April 17, when a 69-year-old man died from severe injuries after being attacked by a group of armed men during a home invasion robbery.
