A man reported missing while hiking at Mount Liang in Tanjong Malim for the past two days was found dead this evening.
Acting Deputy Director of Operations for the Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Shazlean Mohd Hanafiah, stated that the victim, 34-year-old Mustaqqeem Mansoor from Sungai Petani, Kedah, was located at 3:30 pm on the peak of West Mount Liang.
“The search operation applied the LAST concept and followed the hiking trail maps up to the location where the victim was last believed to be missing,” Shazlean said in a statement tonight.
The search and rescue (SAR) operation involved 22 personnel from various agencies, including the police, Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM), Perak State Forestry Department, Slim Village Volunteer Assistance Team (PBS), and Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI).
Shazlean added that the victim, along with 10 friends, began their hike from Bukit Fraser, Pahang on October 10 and were scheduled to descend at Mount Liang. He was last seen on Tuesday around 10:30 pm at the peak of West Mount Liang, walking slowly due to a leg injury.
A fire department helicopter is expected to be used to evacuate the body from the site at 9 am tomorrow. “Due to current weather conditions, helicopter evacuation cannot be conducted at this time. A second rescue team will ascend with equipment to relieve the first team. They will spend the night at the peak, and the helicopter evacuation will be carried out tomorrow morning,” Shazlean explained.
Earlier reports stated that the man went missing while hiking with 10 companions, prompting the fire department to initiate a SAR operation.
