Malaysian Woman Airlifted After Mountain Fall Leaves Her Seriously Injured

Date:

A Malaysian woman was airlifted by helicopter to a hospital in Bali, Indonesia after suffering serious injuries following a fall while descending Mount Rinjani in West Nusa Tenggara.

The Indonesia National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) said the hiker was successfully rescued on Tuesday morning after adverse weather conditions delayed evacuation efforts overnight.

In a statement, the agency said the woman sustained serious injuries that left her unable to move and was first evacuated by porters and tour guides to Pelawangan 2 in Sembalun before rescue teams arrived at the scene.

Responding to the emergency report received on Monday, personnel from the Kayangan rescue post and the Mataram Search and Rescue (SAR) office were immediately deployed to assist in the operation.

To speed up the evacuation, a helicopter operated by PT SGi Air Bali was dispatched directly from Bali to the location.

However, the rescue operation was initially delayed due to thick fog and poor visibility in the mountainous area, according to Mataram SAR office head Muhamad Hariyadi, who coordinated the mission.

He said once conditions improved, the victim was transferred into the helicopter, which departed Pelawangan 2 at 8.17am local time.

The aircraft later landed at the Benoa helipad in Bali at 9.05am, after which the victim was taken to Inmedika Sanur Hospital for further medical treatment.
