Malaysians Urged To Stay Alert As Online Scam Threats Rise

Date:

The public has been urged to immediately contact the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) hotline at 997 if they fall victim to a scam, enabling authorities to take swift action to prevent further losses.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said scammers are becoming increasingly sophisticated, making it possible for anyone to become a victim if they fail to remain vigilant.

He said the Be Smart, Avoid Scam: Scam Awareness For Everyone (SAFE) programme was introduced to help the public recognise the various digital fraud tactics currently being used by scammers.

“Contact 997 immediately if you become a scam victim. Scammers today are getting more cunning, and anyone can fall prey if they are not careful,” he said in a Facebook post on Sunday.

Fahmi noted that the SAFE initiative also educates the public on how to protect themselves online while promoting safer financial management practices.

In a broader effort to strengthen digital security awareness, the programme aims to equip Malaysians with the knowledge needed to identify scams and respond effectively to cyber threats.

He expressed hope that more people would benefit from the initiative and become better prepared to safeguard themselves and their families from online fraud.

“Hopefully, more Malaysians will gain from programmes like this and be better equipped to protect themselves and their loved ones from scam-related threats,” he said.
