Man Allegedly Strangles Wife Over WhatsApp Status

Date:

A 35-year-old man in Kota Pagar Alam, South Sumatra allegedly strangled his wife to death after becoming angered over a WhatsApp status posted by the victim.

According to Detik, the incident took place at their home in Gang Cempaka, Nendagung Village, Pagar Alam Selatan District, on Thursday afternoon.

Pagar Alam Police Chief AKBP Januar Kencana Setia Persada said the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute triggered by the social media post.

The suspect was reportedly offended by a WhatsApp status posted by his 30-year-old wife, which he believed was directed at him, leading to an argument inside their home.

The suspect allegedly confronted the victim about the status, before the conversation escalated into a heated quarrel that turned violent.

Police said the man later contacted the local neighbourhood head (RT) to report the situation involving his wife.

The information was then relayed to authorities, who arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the report.

Officers from the local police station detained the suspect without resistance to prevent any further disturbance in the area.

Preliminary findings indicated that the victim died after being strangled with bare hands during the altercation.
