Police Bust Illegal Lottery Operation In Shop Raid

Date:

Police detained a 23-year-old local man believed to be involved in illegal lottery activities during a raid at a shop in Sungai Liuk Balingian on Saturday afternoon.

Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said the operation was carried out at around 4.30pm, where officers inspected the premises and discovered a smartphone containing an application suspected to have been used for illegal lottery sales.

He said police also seized several items believed to be linked to the activity, including a printer, a sheet of paper printed with four-digit numbers, a pen, a calculator and RM78 in cash.

“The suspect and all seized items were taken to the Mukah district police headquarters for further investigation,” he said in a statement.

According to Muhamad Rizal, a urine screening test conducted on the suspect came back negative, despite the man having three previous records involving crime and drug-related offences.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 4A(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.

If convicted, the suspect could face a fine ranging from RM20,000 to RM200,000, imprisonment of up to five years, or both.
