Man Breaks Into Ex-Girlfriend’s Home And Stabs Her Son 7 Times After Breakup

Date:

A 42-year-old man is facing attempted murder and burglary charges after allegedly breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s home and stabbing her 22-year-old son multiple times in a violent early morning attack.

The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office said Robert Schreiber was indicted following the incident in Patchogue, located on the South Shore of Long Island, after a relationship breakdown that reportedly led to the break-in.

According to prosecutors, Schreiber’s long-term relationship ended on 17 April after he was locked out of the residence. The following morning at around 8am, he allegedly re-entered the home through an unlocked window while occupants were asleep.

He is accused of forcing open the victim’s bedroom door and stabbing him seven times in the head, neck and shoulder. Family members inside the house reportedly intervened and called emergency services, allowing the victim to escape downstairs.

The victim was taken to NYU Langone Hospital, where he underwent treatment including staples to close his wounds. His identity has not been released.

Schreiber was arrested at the scene, and authorities said the knife used in the attack was recovered in his possession.

District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney described the incident as a “violent attack in the victim’s own home,” stressing that domestic violence can escalate even after a relationship ends.

Schreiber now faces multiple charges, including second-degree attempted murder and first-degree burglary. He is being held on bail set at approximately RM4.7 million (US$1 million) and is due back in court on 28 May.

If convicted on the most serious charges, he could face up to 25 years in prison.
