Man Feared Drowned After Trying To Save Drifting Jet Ski In Langkawi

Date:

A man is feared drowned after he reportedly attempted to retrieve a drifting jet ski in the waters off Jalan Pantai Tengah, Langkawi, on Thursday night.

Langkawi Fire and Rescue Department Zone 4 chief Senior Fire Superintendent Mohd Zamri Abdul Ghani said authorities received information regarding the incident from members of the public at around 9pm before arriving at the scene 22 minutes later.

A team of five personnel from the Persiaran Putra Fire and Rescue Station was immediately deployed to the location.

“Upon arrival, we were informed that the victim, identified as 23-year-old Arash Nashran Abdul Maser, was believed to have drowned about 100 metres from the shoreline.

“The victim is believed to have attempted to save a jet ski that had drifted into the sea before strong waves threw him into the water. He was also understood to not be wearing a life jacket at the time,” he said in a statement.

Initial search efforts were carried out along the coastal area with assistance from members of the public, but the victim had yet to be found.

Mohd Zamri said the Water Rescue Team (PPDA) will begin a search and rescue operation early Friday morning to locate the missing victim.
