A 21-year-old phone salesman has been sentenced to 10 years in prison and six strokes of the cane after being convicted of a sexual offence involving his 15-year-old girlfriend.
Sessions Court Judge Musli Ab Hamid handed down the sentence after Bong Chou Swee was found guilty under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years’ imprisonment and whipping upon conviction.
The court also ordered the accused to undergo rehabilitative counselling during his prison term and to be placed under two years of police supervision after completing his sentence.
The offence was committed at an apartment between 2am and 3am on May 11.
Based on court facts, Bong and the victim had known each other since August 2024 and began a relationship in April this year.
On the night of May 10, the victim reportedly brought the accused into her apartment, which she later admitted.
The incident escalated in the early hours of the following day.
The case came to light when the girl’s mother discovered the accused hiding in the apartment, leading to a police report being lodged.
The victim later complained of pain and bleeding during urination.
Medical examination findings revealed injuries consistent with blunt force penetration.
The girl also stated she had not had sexual relations with any other individual apart from the accused.
Bong was unrepresented during the proceedings, while the case was prosecuted by Inspector Nur Ain Wong.
