Three motorcyclists were injured in a multi-vehicle crash involving nine vehicles at Kilometer 25.7 of the Kajang Dispersal Link Expressway (SILK) early yesterday morning.
Kajang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof, said the accident, which occurred at about 6.50 a.m., involved five cars and four motorcycles.
The vehicles included a Perodua Aruz, Perodua Alza, Land Rover, Perodua Bezza, and Perodua Myvi, along with four motorcycles — two Honda RS150s, a Wmoto Xtreme, and a SYM VF3i.
“Investigations revealed that the crash occurred due to a driver’s failure to maintain a safe distance, which led to an inability to brake in time during a sudden braking situation.
“This caused several vehicles to swerve and change lanes in an attempt to avoid collision, but they ended up hitting other cars and motorcycles coming from the side and rear,” he said in a statement last night.
As a result of the accident, three motorcyclists suffered broken arms, facial injuries, and other bodily wounds.
“They were taken to Serdang Hospital for treatment, while the drivers of the other vehicles escaped unharmed,” Naazron added.
The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a penalty of a fine between RM5,000 and RM10,000 or imprisonment of up to 12 months upon conviction.
Police are urging witnesses with information about the incident to contact Investigating Officer Inspector Nur Faezah Mohd Zakria at 012-3268496 to assist in the investigation.
Naazron also reminded all road users to always follow traffic rules, drive responsibly, and stay alert to avoid accidents.
