Mother of Teen Driver Fined RM1,500 Over Fatal Senawang Crash

Date:

The mother of the Honda Jazz driver involved in a fatal Senawang accident on 6 March last year has been fined RM1,500 by the Magistrate’s Court here on Friday.

Magistrate Nurul Azuin Mohd Talhah handed down the sentence to 41-year-old Nur Farahidayah A Rahman, who pleaded guilty to an amended charge. The court also ruled that she would face three months’ imprisonment if she fails to pay the fine.

According to the charge, Nur Farahidayah, as the vehicle owner, allowed a minor to drive the Honda Jazz without a valid driving licence. The offence occurred around 8.30pm at the traffic lights on Jalan Persiaran Senawang 1, Taman Matahari Heights on 6 March 2025.

The prosecution was made under Section 39(5) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which provides for a fine of up to RM2,000, a maximum six-month prison term, or both if convicted.

Defence lawyer Johan Radzi requested a minimal fine, highlighting that his client is a single mother of six children, four of whom are still in school. He added that Nur Farahidayah also cares for her elderly parents and is the main support of her family.

“The defendant’s guilty plea saved the court time, and this was her first offence. She also expressed her apology to the court,” he said.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Khairunnisa Zainuddin sought the maximum fine, stressing the gravity of the case which resulted in three fatalities, and noted that public interest must take precedence over personal circumstances.

“An adult, particularly a mother, should ensure that their child does not drive a vehicle,” she said.

The tragic incident saw the 17-year-old driver fail to stop at a red light, crashing into two motorcycles. Two victims, Muhammad Aidil Ramdan Abdullah, 15, and Muhammad Aswari Lotpi, 16, died on the spot, while 17-year-old Aisar Azim Abdullah succumbed to injuries at Hospital Tuanku Ja’afar on 10 March.
