Anwar Urges Restraint In Afghanistan-Pakistan Tensions After Call With Afghan Acting PM

Date:

Malaysia has called for calm and restraint following escalating tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan that have reportedly claimed hundreds of lives.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said he had spoken with Afghanistan’s Acting Prime Minister, Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund, to discuss the deteriorating security situation between the two neighbouring countries.

During the conversation, Anwar stressed the importance of both nations exercising restraint and avoiding actions that could further worsen the conflict.

He emphasised that the military confrontations, which have already resulted in significant casualties on both sides, must stop immediately to prevent further loss of life.

Anwar reiterated Malaysia’s position that the dispute should be addressed through diplomatic engagement rather than continued confrontation.

According to him, dialogue and peaceful negotiations remain the most effective way to resolve tensions and prevent the situation from escalating into a prolonged conflict.

The Prime Minister warned that continued hostilities would only bring greater suffering to civilians and threaten broader peace and stability in the region.

Malaysia, he said, hopes that both Afghanistan and Pakistan will prioritise diplomacy and work towards a peaceful resolution for the benefit of their people.
