A newborn baby girl was found alive after being abandoned in a car park in front of a surau in Taman Universiti, Skudai, on Saturday evening, sparking concern among the local community.
Johor Bahru Utara district police chief Radin Ramlan Radin Taha said the infant was discovered by a member of the public at approximately 7.33pm. The baby, who still had her umbilical cord attached, had been wrapped in a towel.
He said the infant was immediately taken to Hospital Sultanah Aminah for further medical examination and treatment. Authorities later confirmed that the baby is in stable condition and currently receiving care.
Police have launched an investigation under Section 317 of the Penal Code for abandoning or concealing a child with the intention of desertion. Efforts are ongoing to locate those responsible for the incident.
Radin Ramlan urged anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation by contacting Investigating Officer Inspector Nursyazwani Kamaruddin or the Johor Bahru Utara district police headquarters hotline.
The case has drawn widespread attention after a video of the discovery went viral on social media, triggering both sympathy and outrage among netizens, while highlighting broader concerns about child abandonment cases in the country.
