Teen Food Delivery Rider Fined RM3,000 For Ramming Police Officer At Roadblock

Date:

A part-time food delivery rider has been fined RM3,000 by the Magistrate’s Court after admitting to ramming into a police officer during a roadblock incident last Monday.

Magistrate Siti Zubaidah Mahat imposed the sentence on Muhammad Irfan Jasman, 19, after he pleaded guilty to the charge. The court also ordered a three-month jail term in default of payment.

According to the charge, Muhammad Irfan was accused of intentionally causing injury to a police officer, Corporal Ahmad Faidz Mat Jusoh, while the officer was performing his duties at Jalan Persiaran Raja Muda Musa at about 1am on 27 April.

The offence falls under Section 332 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of three years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.

During mitigation, defence lawyer K. Nathiya said the accused is a young offender with irregular income as a part-time rider and is supporting his parents. She appealed for a minimum fine, noting that it was his first offence.

However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Salman Alfarisi Nawawi urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence, stressing that the incident occurred in a public area and resulted in rib injuries to the victim, who was on duty.

In a separate proceeding, Muhammad Irfan also pleaded guilty to reckless riding of a motorcycle at around 1.30am at the same location and date.

The charge was framed under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a penalty of up to five years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM15,000, and disqualification from holding a driving licence.

Magistrate A. Khartiyayini allowed bail of RM4,000 with one surety and fixed 11 June for the submission of a social report.

It was previously reported that the 39-year-old police corporal suffered injuries to his head and face after being struck by the motorcycle while the suspect attempted to flee the roadblock. The incident was believed to be linked to the rider driving without a valid licence.
