A woman who suffered serious neck injuries after allegedly being stabbed by her male friend inside a car in front of a restaurant in Titi Gajah, Kepala Batas, is now in stable condition after undergoing surgery at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB).
The victim’s sister, who declined to be named, said the woman successfully underwent a 10-hour operation on Monday following the attack.
“My sister safely completed the surgery which started at 9am and ended around 7pm. She is still being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and is currently under sedation so she can rest,” she said when met at the family home on Tuesday.
However, the family requested privacy and said they were not yet ready to issue any statement regarding the incident.
The sister added that the victim’s two children are currently being cared for by family members while the woman continues receiving treatment at the hospital.
Meanwhile, a neighbour from Taman Wira, Mergong, who also declined to be named, said she often saw the victim driving a Mazda 3 but never interacted with her personally.
“She lived there with her two children and was rarely at home. I was shocked when I heard she was stabbed,” the neighbour said.
Kota Setar district police chief Syed Basri Syed Ali confirmed that the victim is currently in stable condition.
Earlier reports stated that the incident allegedly occurred at about 9.19pm on Sunday and is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt using a weapon.
The 32-year-old suspect was later arrested while hiding near a mosque in Taman Uda after fleeing for more than four hours following the incident.
