A woman’s 23-year marriage has fallen apart after she allegedly discovered her husband was involved in an affair with a Buddhist monk from a well-known temple, in a case that has gone viral on social media.
The story, shared by a Facebook page identified as “Lawyer Phat, Wife 2026,” quickly spread online after it claimed the woman’s husband was caught in the relationship and even suggested a “three-person arrangement,” leaving her devastated.
According to the post, the woman from Prachinburi province was shocked by the revelation and decided to leave the marital home, reportedly with only 6,000 baht to start her life over. The incident has drawn widespread public attention and sympathy online.
The alleged misconduct sparked strong reactions from netizens, many of whom criticised both the husband and the monk, describing the situation as a serious breach of moral and monastic discipline.
On May 4, reporters visited a temple in Nakhon Ratchasima to verify the claims. A monk at the temple said he had only briefly seen the monk involved and had not observed any unusual behaviour, adding that he was surprised by the allegations and confirmed the individual was not affiliated with the temple.
The Provincial Office of Buddhism in Nakhon Ratchasima later clarified that the monk named in reports, identified as Phra Pornchai, is approximately 30 years old and was ordained in 2024 at a temple in Phra Thong Kham district.
Authorities said he is currently attached to a temple in Det Udom district, Ubon Ratchathani, and had previously attended Buddhist studies in Nakhon Ratchasima in 2025, but was not formally affiliated with that institution.
Separately, Wat Bueng Royal Monastery issued a statement denying any connection to the monk, stating that he was only a temporary visitor for studies and left the premises in October 2025.
Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to verify the claims and determine the facts behind the allegations, which have sparked intense public debate over religious conduct and personal ethics.
