A 23-year-old Israeli-German tourist plunged to his death after slipping out of his harness while paragliding with an instructor near Medellín, Colombia.
Dramatic footage of the incident shows Noam Mamam suddenly pitching forward while flying high above a popular tourist area.
For a brief moment, he was left dangling in midair, held by a cable and clinging on with one arm as his instructor desperately tried to reach him.
However, the instructor was unable to pull him back to safety, and Mamam eventually fell to the ground.
The tragedy reportedly occurred around noon above a road connecting Medellín with San Pedro de los Milagros.
The instructor, identified as Emiliano Muñetón Castro, was reportedly taken to hospital following the incident.
Local authorities and tourism inspectors have launched an investigation into the fatal accident.
Initial findings suggest a possible problem with the safety harness, with investigators examining whether it had been properly secured and checked before take-off.
However, the mayor’s office reportedly said the fall may have been caused by weather conditions, adding another possible factor to the investigation.
The exact circumstances surrounding the accident have yet to be established.
The incident comes months after experienced paraglider Bayram Kurt, 48, died in northern Turkey in July when his parachute reportedly collapsed during strong winds.
Footage of that incident showed Kurt losing control shortly after take-off before plunging towards mountainous terrain from a height of around 100 feet.
