£4 Million Cash Hoard, Cocaine Seized In Major London Drug Bust

Date:

A 54-year-old man has been arrested after police uncovered approximately £4 million (RM22 million) in cash and 1 kilogramme (kg) of cocaine concealed inside several shopping bags during a major operation in south London.

The arrest followed the inspection of a suspicious vehicle in Catford, where officers discovered a shopping bag containing £35,000 (RM192,723) in cash during an initial search.

Further investigations led police to the suspect’s residence, where a subsequent raid uncovered an estimated £4 million in cash hidden inside various shopping bags across two bedrooms. Officers also seized 1kg of Class A cocaine from the property.

The discovery is regarded as one of the largest cash seizures carried out by local authorities, highlighting the scale of organised criminal activities and the importance of intelligence-led policing in tackling serious offences.

Crime specialist Commander Paul Brogden said the operation demonstrated the effectiveness of proactive policing in disrupting organised crime networks.

“This is one of the largest cash seizures we have ever made. It reflects the commitment of local police in tackling serious and organised crime.

“The arrest also highlights the importance of conducting stop-and-search operations, including intercepting suspicious vehicles, as part of efforts to detect and prevent criminal activity,” he said.
