A 20-year-old fast food restaurant employee was killed after the motorcycle he was riding crashed along the East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2) near the Perasing Rest and Service Area (R&R) on Saturday morning.
The victim, identified as Muhammad Shahrul Mohd Sabri from Kuala Lumpur, was travelling with six other motorcyclists to attend the RXZ Members 8.0 gathering in Kuala Terengganu when the accident occurred at about 6.30am.
Kemaman District Police Chief Superintendent Mohd Razi Rosli said preliminary investigations found that the victim was riding a Yamaha Y15ZR from Kuantan towards Kuala Terengganu when he is believed to have lost control of the motorcycle.
He said the motorcycle scraped against the road barrier on the right side of the highway before the victim was thrown into a concrete drain located between the road barriers.
Muhammad Shahrul sustained severe head injuries and serious injuries to both legs, and was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident serves as another reminder for motorcyclists to remain vigilant and prioritise safety, especially when travelling in groups over long distances.
The victim’s body was taken to the Forensic Unit of Kemaman Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
