A holiday in Serbia ended in tragedy after a Russian glamour model was found dead inside a suitcase days after she was reported missing, prompting police to launch a murder investigation.
Lyudmilla Turkova, 28, had been missing for six days after she was last seen meeting several friends at a nightclub in Belgrade. Her disappearance sparked concern before a grim discovery was made in a canal on the outskirts of the Serbian capital.
The victim’s body was recovered after local residents spotted a suspicious object floating in the Vizelj Canal and alerted the authorities. Police later confirmed the object was a suitcase containing the woman’s remains.
Investigators have yet to disclose the exact cause of death or reveal how the victim was allegedly killed, as forensic examinations are still ongoing. Authorities said the post-mortem is being carried out at the Institute of Forensic Medicine to assist the investigation.
Following initial investigations, Serbian police arrested a Turkish national identified as K.E. at Nikola Tesla Airport in Belgrade while he was allegedly attempting to leave the country. The suspect is believed to have links to the murder.
Preliminary findings indicate Turkova was allegedly killed inside a rented apartment in the Borca district before her body was concealed in a suitcase and dumped in the canal in an apparent attempt to destroy evidence.
Police said investigations are continuing to establish the motive behind the killing and determine whether any other individuals were involved in the crime.
