Two men have been arrested by police in Jharkhand, India, for allegedly murdering their friend, dismembering his body and dumping the remains in an abandoned stone quarry.
The victim was identified as 22-year-old Hussain Ansari, a resident of New Azad Basti under the jurisdiction of Sadar Police Station in Lohardaga district.
The gruesome crime came to light on Tuesday after police discovered a human head and two legs inside a gunny sack submerged in a water-filled abandoned quarry at Oyna Tongri.
Authorities said the victim’s identity was confirmed through scientific and forensic examinations before investigators launched a detailed probe into the case.
Lohardaga police chief Sadique Anwar Rizvi said two suspects, identified as 22-year-old Arman Khan from Noor Nagar and 25-year-old Md Shahnwaj Ahmad, also known as Raj, had been arrested and later confessed to their involvement.
Police said the suspects also led investigators to recover the victim’s remaining body parts.
Initial investigations revealed that the victim and the two suspects had been drinking together at Shahnwaj’s house in Durgabadi Lane on July 4 before an argument broke out.
The dispute allegedly turned violent, with Hussain believed to have been beaten to death before his body was cut into pieces using a hacksaw.
Investigators said the victim’s head and both legs were placed inside a sack and thrown into the abandoned quarry, while the remaining body parts were dumped in nearby forested and bushland areas.
Following information provided by the suspects, police recovered the remaining body parts, the weapon believed to have been used in the murder and a scooter allegedly used to transport and dispose of the body.
The case was registered at Sadar Police Station following a report lodged by the victim’s father, Mikail Mir.
Both suspects remain in police custody as investigations into the murder continue.
