A 16-year-old boy was found drowned after he was believed to have fallen into a drain near the entrance of a college in Bangi on Wednesday.
The tragic incident prompted an emergency response after the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call at about 4.23pm.
Assistant Director of Operations, Ashrul Riezal Asbar, said four firefighters from the Semenyih Fire and Rescue Station, together with a fire engine, were dispatched to the scene located approximately 13 kilometres away.
Initial information provided by the victim’s friends indicated that the teenager had accidentally fallen into the drain before being swept away by the strong current.
Rescue teams immediately launched a search operation and eventually located the victim about two kilometres from the point where he was reported to have fallen.
The teenager was found in a nearby water retention area. However, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident serves as another reminder of the dangers posed by fast-moving water, particularly during wet weather conditions when drainage systems can become hazardous.
Following the recovery operation, the case was handed over to the police for further investigation and necessary procedures.
