20km Police Chase Ends With Driver Crashing Into Multiple Vehicles On PLUS Highway

Date:

A man fled from police in a dangerous 20-kilometre chase along the North–South Expressway (PLUS) near Rembau last night, ramming into three vehicles, including a police car, during the escape.

The incident, which occurred around 10pm, also saw the suspect allegedly driving against traffic and narrowly avoiding police officers on duty, believed to be due to his lack of a valid driving licence.

Acting Rembau district police chief, Deputy Superintendent Azmi Ali, said the incident began when officers on patrol spotted a Volkswagen Passat 1.8 with expired road tax and insurance during a routine check at KM225 northbound.

He said police activated beacon lights and instructed the driver to stop, but the suspect ignored the order and sped off while driving dangerously in a zig-zag manner.

Backup units from the Seremban–Port Dickson Highway patrol were later deployed to block all lanes at KM242 northbound in an attempt to stop the vehicle.

However, upon reaching the blockade, the driver reportedly drove against traffic and collided with several vehicles before abandoning the car by the roadside.

The suspect then fled into nearby oil palm plantation bushes, while police confirmed that all other motorists involved, including drivers of a Proton Saga, Toyota Yaris, and police personnel, escaped unhurt despite vehicle damage.

Checks revealed the vehicle’s road tax and insurance had expired since May, and the suspect, a 30-year-old man, did not possess a valid driving licence.

Police have identified the suspect and urged him to surrender, while also calling on members of the public with information to assist in locating him.
