29-Year-Old Man Believed To Be Behind Stabbing Of Bank Executive Arrested In Kota Setar

Date:

Police are continuing their search for the weapon used by a man who allegedly stabbed his relative to death at a house in Taman Sultan Abdul Halim, Jalan Tanjung Bendahara, yesterday.

Kota Setar district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Syed Basri Syed Ali, said efforts to locate the weapon are ongoing as investigations proceed.

Preliminary inquiries indicate that the 29-year-old suspect acted alone in the fatal attack on the 52-year-old bank operations executive, Zahrullail Basir.

“The suspect is known to have a quick temper. Initial findings suggest the motive may be related to financial problems. Further investigations are ongoing,” Syed Basri said.

The suspect was arrested at 8.34pm last night on a tour bus while travelling to Selangor. He has been remanded for seven days, until February 9, to assist in the investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
