Blind Fisherman Dies After Alleged Assault In Felda Umas Dispute

Date:

A visually impaired fisherman has died following an alleged assault during a dispute while carrying out house repair work at Felda Umas, near Tawau, in an incident reported yesterday.

The 40-year-old victim, Mohamad Sukry Mobing, is believed to have been attacked by two foreign workers after an argument reportedly broke out over delays in completing renovation work at a residential property.

According to reports, the victim was later found injured and bleeding heavily at a public jetty in the area, with severe injuries to his head, mouth and nose before being rushed for medical attention.

He was initially taken to a nearby health clinic in Felda Umas for emergency treatment before being transferred to Tawau Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival at about 1.35pm.

Police said the incident is believed to have stemmed from a confrontation at the work site after the victim was allegedly reprimanded for slow progress in completing the renovation job.

Two suspects, aged 23 and 52, were later arrested in Pulau Bingkulan, Kalabakan, to assist investigations into the case.

Authorities are awaiting post-mortem results from the Hospital Tawau forensic department to determine the exact cause of death.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder as investigations continue.
