A Chinese national was arrested after authorities seized nearly seven kilograms of ketamine, worth an estimated RM344,000, at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2 (KLIA2) on October 28.
The suspect was detained at the KLIA2 Arrival Hall following a joint operation between the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) Enforcement Division and the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS).
According to KLIA Customs Director Zulkifli Muhammad, a baggage scan revealed suspicious images, prompting officers to conduct a detailed inspection.
“Upon checking the suspect’s two suitcases, officers discovered several small transparent plastic packets containing a white powdery substance believed to be ketamine. The packets were wrapped in aluminium foil and hidden within a secret compartment in the luggage lining,” he said in a statement last night.
The total seizure weighed approximately 6.88 kilograms and was valued at more than RM344,000.
Zulkifli added that ketamine is classified under the First Schedule, Part III of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and the case is being investigated under Section 39B(1)(a) of the same Act — which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment, and no fewer than 12 strokes of the cane if the death sentence is not imposed.
He confirmed that the suspect has since been charged in court.
Zulkifli also emphasized that JKDM will continue to strengthen cooperation with other enforcement agencies to combat smuggling activities at the nation’s entry points.
