Eight Men Arrested For Drug Offences, Two Others Lose Nearly RM7,000 In Scams In Lawas

Date:

Eight men were arrested after testing positive for drugs during an integrated police operation carried out across Lawas between July 28 and Monday.

Lawas police chief DSP Liong Tindan said the suspects, aged between 22 and 52, were detained during separate operations in Sundar, Trusan, Lawas Damit and Lawas town.

Although no illegal items or drugs were found on the suspects, urine tests revealed they had tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

In a separate case, a man lost RM2,900 after receiving a phone call from an individual posing as his friend, who claimed to urgently need money to pay for a relative’s medical treatment.

The victim transferred the money to the bank account provided, but later discovered the caller was not his friend after meeting him in person. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.

In another scam, a second man lost RM4,087.91 after being contacted via WhatsApp and persuaded to join an investment scheme.

Police said the victim made several payments before becoming suspicious when he was unable to withdraw the promised investment returns.

The case is also being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
