Motorists across parts of the Klang Valley were left battling heavy rain, fallen trees and severe traffic congestion on Friday, with several roads blocked after trees came down across lanes.
Photos and videos shared on Threads showed vehicles caught in lengthy traffic jams as branches and tree trunks obstructed roads along the North Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) near Jalan Duta-Bukit Lanjan and in Damansara Damai.
Threads user ayranajihabtmuhdherry said traffic had been reduced to a single lane, resulting in a severe slowdown.
“The traffic is terrible, with only one lane passable. The rain wasn’t even heavy earlier,” the user wrote.
The bad weather also disrupted businesses in Damansara Damai, with a takoyaki seller apologising to customers after having to cancel orders.
“I’m sorry to all Empire Tako customers. I had to cancel the orders. The weather is really bad today. Please pray that we can resume business,” the seller wrote.
Banana fritter seller hafiezrin also announced that his stall would be closed for two days after it and nearby hawker tents were damaged by the weather.
“Wak Goreng Pisang is closed for two days (Saturday and Sunday), residents of Damansara Damai. See you on Monday,” he wrote.
His announcement prompted words of encouragement from other users, with one telling him to “come back stronger” and promising to buy his banana fritters later.
Amid the disruption, motorists and motorcyclists also stepped in to help clear fallen trees and reopen blocked lanes.
User _shanuvath said four northbound lanes from Duta had been reduced to just one after a large tree fell across the highway, with traffic backing up as far as the Sungai Buloh Hospital exit.
“Salute to Malaysians, especially the riders who immediately stopped to help move the tree,” the user wrote.
Another user, mohdazhar.anuar, thanked those who worked together to remove fallen trees along the North-South Expressway northbound route between Jalan Duta and Bukit Lanjan.
“Thank you to the Malaysian heroes who worked together to cut, move and clear the fallen trees and clear the traffic for other road users,” the user wrote.
Elsewhere in Klang Sentral, a motorist whose car became stranded in rising water was also assisted by a passer-by as the weather caused further disruption on the roads.
