Motorists have been urged to exercise extra caution as worsening haze continues to reduce visibility on the roads, following a fatal accident along Penrissen Road near the 9th Mile this morning.
The crash occurred at around 8am and claimed the life of a young male motorcyclist who was reportedly riding alone at the time.
According to information from the scene, the motorcyclist was travelling along the road when he allegedly moved into the opposite lane for reasons that remain unclear.
He was then struck head-on by an oncoming Perodua Axia.
The impact reportedly threw the motorcyclist onto the road, leaving him with severe injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene, while the front section of his motorcycle was badly damaged.
The Axia also sustained damage to its right front section and door. The driver, however, was reportedly unharmed in the collision.
Traffic police rushed to the scene after receiving information about the accident to investigate the circumstances and determine the exact cause of the crash.
The deceased’s body was subsequently taken to the mortuary at Sarawak General Hospital, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
With haze continuing to affect visibility in several areas, road users are advised to slow down, maintain a safe distance and remain alert, particularly when travelling through areas with reduced visibility.
