Industrial Premises In Kulai Temporarily Shut Over Upside-Down Jalur Gemilang

Date:

An industrial premises under the administration of the Kulai Municipal Council (MPKu) has been temporarily ordered to close after the Jalur Gemilang was found displayed upside down.

Johor Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor said the closure would remain in place until the company provides an explanation and completes the required undertaking.

He said the national flag was immediately corrected after the improper display was discovered, while the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has launched an investigation into the incident.

“The company’s director will also be called as soon as possible to provide an explanation,” he said in a statement on Monday.

The incident sparked public anger after a photograph showing the Jalur Gemilang displayed upside down outside the industrial premises went viral on social media, particularly as the country is currently celebrating National Month.

Mohd Jafni said MPKu’s action was taken under the Licensing of Trades, Businesses and Industries By-Laws 2019, which applies to local authorities in Johor.

He said the relevant provisions include By-Law 49(2), which concerns the authority to close premises, and By-Law 45(1), which covers the display of flags.

He stressed that mistakes involving the Jalur Gemilang should not be taken lightly, especially during the National Month celebrations, as the flag represents the country’s sovereignty and identity.

“Such matters cannot be regarded as trivial, normalised or simply allowed to pass without action.

“All premises owners, companies and industrial operators in Johor are reminded to ensure that the Jalur Gemilang is displayed correctly and with full responsibility,” he said.

Mohd Jafni added that negligence should not be used as an excuse to undermine the dignity of a national symbol.

“The state government will not compromise when it comes to respecting the Jalur Gemilang.

“We can wait for the outcome of the investigation to determine the cause and responsibility of those involved, but our position is clear — the dignity of the country must be protected and the law must be respected,” he said.
