Giving birth to her seventh child while serving a prison sentence was a painful experience that a former drug dealer, known as Nor, 32, says she will never forget.
The mother from Jempol, Negeri Sembilan, said this was her second arrest for drug trafficking. She was first detained in November 2023 before being arrested again last year and sentenced to two years in prison for a similar offence.
Nor said her time behind bars had a profound impact on her and became one of the reasons she decided to change her life.
“Alhamdulillah, I have now been granted the Licensed Release of Prisoners (PBSL), and I am extremely grateful that I can raise my baby outside prison instead of inside.
“I thank Allah SWT for giving me another opportunity to change my life and raise my baby outside,” she said when met at the PBSL Madani Yakin event held in conjunction with the 69th National Day celebrations at Sungai Udang Prison here yesterday.
Nor said she became involved in drug trafficking after being attracted by the money involved and influenced by her former husband, who was also taking drugs.
“I got involved because it was an easy way to make money. I sold drugs through the phone, and each transaction could bring in thousands of ringgit.
“I had been involved in drug trafficking for quite some time. I had wanted to change before, but I was never able to follow through,” she said while carrying her three-month-old son.
The experience of giving birth while in prison has strengthened Nor’s determination to stay away from crime and ensure her youngest child grows up outside prison like other children.
“This has been a major and painful experience for me. I hope this will be the first and last time. I do not want to give birth in prison again.
“I pray that Allah SWT gives me the strength to continue changing. I do not want to return to prison. I have had enough,” she said.
Nor said she was particularly worried about the impact prison life could have on her children and wanted her youngest son to grow up alongside his siblings.
“I feel sorry for my child if he grows up inside prison. I want him to grow up outside like other children, just like his siblings.
“I want him to be reunited with his brothers and sisters. I do not want him to grow up in prison anymore,” she added.
