JPJ Terengganu Detects Rohingya Using Borrowed Vehicles For Transport Activities

Date:

Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan (JPJ) Terengganu has detected cases involving members of the Rohingya community allegedly renting or borrowing vehicles from locals to carry out transport activities, including ferrying passengers and transporting goods without valid driving licences.

Terengganu JPJ director Mohd Zamri Samion said the matter was uncovered during Ops Penguatkuasaan Warga Asing (Ops Pewa), which saw 93 Rohingya individuals detained since June 1.

He said the group was believed to be using private cars and motorcycles within their community network for various purposes, including transporting work equipment and sending school students for a fee.

He warned that the use of private vehicles by foreign nationals for passenger or goods transport poses serious risks to road users, especially in the event of accidents.

Mohd Zamri said many of those involved did not possess a valid Competent Driving Licence (CDL), while the vehicles used were also not covered by insurance or valid road tax.

He added that during Ops Pewa, a total of 114 vehicles belonging to foreign nationals were seized, while 559 summonses were issued for various offences.
