Kedah Woman Faces Multiple Charges After Spitting and Throwing Objects at Officers

Date:

A 34-year-old woman in Mergong, Kedah, has been arrested following a viral video showing her acting aggressively toward police officers and members of the public.

The footage shows the woman shouting, spitting, and throwing an object at two policemen during the incident.

Kota Setar police chief ACP Syed Basri Syed Ali told the New Straits Times that a report was received at 1.11pm on 30 December regarding the woman, who is believed to have mental health issues, allegedly punching a company employee.

Police dispatched two officers to the scene, where they found the woman causing a disturbance. Despite attempts to calm her down, she reportedly became increasingly hostile.

“She allegedly raised her voice, hurled verbal abuse, and made an obscene gesture at one of the officers. She also threw her identity card at the officer and spat twice in his direction, as well as toward others present at the scene,” Syed Basri said.

The suspect was arrested at around 2.30pm on 31 December and has been remanded to assist with investigations.

She now faces multiple charges under Section 353 of the Penal Code for using criminal force to deter a public servant from performing their duties, Section 298 for uttering words intended to wound religious feelings, and Section 509 for insulting the modesty of a person.
