A luxury BMW 7 Series driven by a man holding a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) card is among 145 vehicles seized by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) in a large-scale enforcement operation dubbed Op Luxury.
The vehicle, driven by a man believed to be in his 30s, was detained after authorities discovered that its road tax had expired. At the time of the seizure last week, the car was also decorated with ribbons, believed to be in preparation for a wedding event.
Negeri Sembilan JPJ director Jasyindar Singh Sidhu said a total of 870 vehicles were inspected throughout the operation, with 145 vehicles seized, including luxury models such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota Alphard, Lexus and BMW Limousine units.
He added that among those detained were seven luxury vehicles driven by non-citizens, mainly individuals from China, Pakistan and Bangladesh, including one UNHCR card holder.
The operation focuses on compliance with Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM), valid insurance coverage, and driving licences, as well as offences involving unlicensed or expired documentation.
Authorities also inspected cases involving unauthorised vehicle modifications and other violations under the Road Transport Act 1987.
Jasyindar stressed that vehicle value or ownership status does not exempt any individual from enforcement action under the law.
He added that JPJ will continue to intensify enforcement efforts against luxury vehicle owners and motorists through regular patrols, roadblocks and technical inspections to ensure full compliance with road regulations.
