Podcast On Sensitive 3R Issues Lands Two Men In Police Custody

Date:

Police have arrested two men to assist investigations into a podcast believed to have touched on sensitive issues involving religion, race and the monarchy.

Klang Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ramsay Embol said the two suspects, a freelance host in his 30s and a businessman in his 60s, were detained on Thursday after police received a report concerning the content the previous day.

He said the report involved a video clip featuring a podcast hosted by the two individuals, during which they discussed matters related to secularism and liberalism.

“The video clip was uploaded on a social media platform, and the podcast content touched on issues involving religion, race and the institution of royalty (3R),” he said in a statement on Friday.

Ramsay said police are investigating the case under Sections 298, 504 and 505(b) of the Penal Code, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, as well as Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948.

The investigation comes as authorities continue to monitor online content involving sensitive issues, particularly material that could potentially affect public harmony or stir controversy.

Police have also urged members of the public not to speculate about the case or circulate information that could interfere with the ongoing investigation.

Ramsay stressed that the investigation is still underway and said any information relating to the case should be handled responsibly until the authorities complete their probe.
