The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) in Kelantan recorded 742 enforcement cases involving the detention of 135 individuals to assist investigations between January and July 31 this year.
Kelantan KPDN director Hanif Yusabra Yusuf said enforcement operations during the period resulted in controlled goods worth RM552,078.54 being seized, while the total value of all seized items reached RM4.02 million.
He said 443 cases were compounded, generating RM332,100 in total compound payments following enforcement inspections carried out across the state.
“Offences under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 recorded the highest number with 318 cases, followed by the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 with 205 cases, the Weights and Measures Act 1972 with 191 cases, the Trade Descriptions Act 2011 with 21 cases, the Trademarks Act 2019 with four cases and the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 with three cases,” he said.
Kota Bharu emerged as the district with the highest enforcement activity, recording 368 cases, 96 arrests and total seizures valued at RM2.35 million.
Hanif Yusabra said the figures reflected KPDN Kelantan’s continued efforts to curb various offences involving domestic trade and consumer-related laws, particularly those linked to the misuse of controlled goods and profiteering.
He added that enforcement operations also focused on ensuring traders comply with regulations governing prices as well as the proper use of weighing and measuring instruments during commercial transactions.
“KPDN Kelantan will continue strengthening integrated, targeted and continuous enforcement operations throughout the state to ensure compliance with the law, protect consumer interests and curb any form of abuse that could affect the people’s wellbeing,” he said.
Hanif Yusabra was speaking to reporters after officiating the 2026 annual general meeting of the Kelab Media Kelantan Darul Naim (KEMUDI) for the 2024/2026 term yesterday.
Meanwhile, he said information exchanges and cooperation with neighbouring countries, particularly authorities in southern Thailand, had played an important role in efforts to curb the smuggling and abuse of subsidised goods along the border.
According to him, strategic cooperation with Thai authorities had been established for many years but was now being intensified to prevent greater leakages involving subsidised goods.
He added that a courtesy visit was also made recently to Sungai Golok District Chief Sufyan Hasan as part of efforts to strengthen cross-border cooperation in combating the abuse and diversion of subsidised goods.
