A 54-year-old Malaysian man was detained by the General Operations Force (PGA) after he allegedly entered Malaysia by boat through an illegal landing point following a trip to Golok, Thailand, to visit his wife.
The man was intercepted at about 2.45pm on Tuesday after members of the Strike Force from C Company, 8th PGA Battalion spotted the boat approaching the Malaysian side of Sungai Golok near the Abe Yie Paking illegal jetty.
Southeast Brigade commander Senior Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Radzi Hussain said the officers monitoring the area moved in to check the man after identifying the boat.
“During a body search, no prohibited or illegal items were found in his possession.
“However, he was detained on suspicion of entering Malaysia through an unauthorised route and was taken to Komtak Taman Bakti for further action,” he told reporters on Wednesday.
A brief interrogation found that the man had travelled to Thailand earlier to meet his wife in Golok before returning to Malaysia through the illegal landing point.
Authorities also conducted a urine screening on the Malaysian national, which returned a negative result.
The suspect was subsequently handed over to the Criminal Investigation Division at the Pasir Mas District Police Headquarters for further investigation and action.
Ahmad Radzi said the case is being investigated under Section 5(2) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, which covers offences involving unauthorised entry into Malaysia.
