Malaysia recorded 95,638 online scam cases from 2025 until May this year, involving total losses of RM3.80 billion, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
He said 66,204 cases were reported throughout 2025, with victims losing RM2.97 billion, while another 29,434 cases were recorded between January and May this year, involving losses amounting to RM827.73 million.
The losses involved various digital scam methods, including phone scams, love scams, e-commerce fraud, e-financial scams, as well as fake loan and investment schemes.
Saifuddin Nasution said this in a written response uploaded on the official Dewan Rakyat website yesterday, replying to a question from Yeo Bee Yin (PH-Puchong) regarding the latest online scam statistics, financial losses and the rate of funds recovered for victims.
On recovery efforts, he said RM6.65 million, or 38 per cent, out of RM17.49 million in seized funds throughout 2025 had been successfully returned to victims.
For the period between January and May this year, RM3.57 million, or 49 per cent, of the RM7.25 million in seized funds had been recovered and returned.
He said the increase in recovered funds showed that the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) continues to strengthen its role as a national scam response platform and has gained greater public trust.
