Police Deny Kidnapping Attempt Involving Religious School Student In Sungai Buloh

Date:

Police have denied claims circulating on social media about an alleged attempt to kidnap a religious school student in Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh.

Sungai Buloh district police chief Superintendent Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor said police detected a social media post regarding the alleged incident at around 1.15pm on Sunday.

He confirmed that the student’s mother had lodged a police report, but preliminary investigations found no evidence of a kidnapping attempt as claimed in the viral post.

“The police confirm that a report was received from the mother of the student involved. However, preliminary investigations found that there was no attempted kidnapping as circulated.

“The student is also in good condition and is safe with her family,” he said in a statement on Monday.

Mohd Hafiz urged members of the public not to carelessly share claims or information that could cause unnecessary fear and panic within the community.

He said anyone receiving information about a suspected crime should first refer the matter to the Sungai Buloh District Police Headquarters before sharing it publicly.

Members of the public can contact the Sungai Buloh police hotline at 03-6157 9204, which operates 24 hours, or call the emergency number 999.

Mohd Hafiz warned that those who spread information capable of causing public alarm could face legal action under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum two-year jail term, a fine, or both upon conviction.

“Action may also be taken under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which provides for a maximum fine of RM50,000, imprisonment for up to one year, or both,” he said.
